The band have a definite willingness towards experimentation and lyrics are written with stark and refreshing honesty. Given the classical training of three of the band members and their overall willingness to experiment, an understanding of classical composition has become integral to the bands process of crafting songs.
Alibi Tom, five character filled, creative people; a visionary, an organizer, a pragmatist, a diplomat and and an enthusiast, each raised in musical backgrounds(Classical, Britpop and Progressive), brought together by friendship and a commitment to making music, mediate feelings, satisfy a need to create and affect their surroundings. The current name of the band derived as the recordings of the debut album 'Scrapbook' started in June 2007. With a new sound, a new name seemed right as well.
The first seeds of the of the indie rock quintet known today as Alibi Tom, all residing in Gothenburg, Sweden were sown more than five years ago with cousins Markus and Erik. Markus brother Joel G, joined as the lead singer after convincing the others he did not want to play the drums(being a drummer originally). With school friend Martin on bass, they were complete - less a drummer. A couple of years ago Joel W showed up (current drummer), and soon joined the band. The major part of the band have grown up in Gothenburg (Joel W, comes from the dark woods of 'Smaland' and Erik grew up in Falkenberg, one hour outside Gothenburg). [Note; An interesting fact is...the two brothers have grown up on a small island (the only access was by boat), theirs was the only house on the island]. Alibi Tom is today signed on the British independent label LEON music art fashion(first band to join the LEON family), located outside Oxford. The UK release of the debut album named 'Scrapbook' took place on July 21, 2008.
